About IIE
Peace and prosperity around the world depend on increasing the capacity of people to think and work in a global and intercultural basis. As technology opens borders, education and professional exchange open minds.

The Institute of International Education was established in 1919 as an independent nonprofit, in the aftermath of World War I, by individuals who believed that there could be no lasting peace without greater understanding between nations and that international exchange formed the strongest basis for fostering such understanding.
