DWAC Speaker – Ambassador Phil Wilcox 12/08/11

Israel, Palestine and the US: Is the Peace Process Dead?

The Obama administration’s bold commitment to make peace between Israel and Palestine has collapsed. What, if anything, can be done to restore U.S. leadership in resolving this century old conflict which poses a growing strategic threat to the United States? The situation as it stands begs the question, is the peace process dead?

Ambassador Philip C. Wilcox Jr. needs no introduction to many in Denver; he has spoken numerous times to DWAC and other groups as a result of repeated invitations based on his knowledgeable and balanced updates of the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Wilcox is the President of the Foundation for Middle East Peace, a Washington-based foundation devoted to fostering peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Since 2010 he also has been Chairman of American Friends of UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency).

Ambassador Wilcox spent 31 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, retiring in 1997. His last overseas assignment was as Chief of Mission and U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem. In the Department of State his assignments included being Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs and Ambassador at Large and Coordinator for Counter Terrorism. He has been awarded the Department of State’s Meritorious, Superior and Presidential Honor Awards.  Wilcox speaks French and Indonesian. He has a BA in History from Williams and an LL.B from the Stanford Law School.
