I was drawn to the Institute for International Education because of its mission to facilitate the ‘international exchange of people and ideas.’ I strongly believe in the power of international education and diplomacy to promote peace and prosperity around the world and when I learned about IIE’s involvement in this ideal, I knew I had to get involved.

Our 2011 Volunteers of the Month

 

 

 The Rocky Mountain IIE organization has always depended heavily on a wonderfully committed group of volunteers who have provided hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of home hospitality events and professional meetings with our international visitors.

Every year IIE Volunteers have entertained almost 200 Fulbright and other students, scholars and fellows in local homes, with our international guests reporting that it was one of the most memorable evenings in their U.S. experience. In addition to these interactions with international visitors, IIE has for years relied on volunteers to plan and manage a succession of successful fund-raising events, from the Diplomat’s Ball to our past April in Paris, honoring former Ambassador Craig Stapleton, to our Silver Anniversary Celebration, honoring Lee Palmer Everding.

The volunteer program has been taking on some new challenges to recruit and train volunteers to expand the reach of the organization. These volunteers are bringing some additional “fire power” to the areas of marketing, social networking, business development, membership services, and program enhancement. In the first 6 months of 2011, over 1600 volunteer hours were spent in these areas, enriching both the volunteers and the organization. And the needs continue to grow: we currently have job descriptions posted below for some very exciting and innovative volunteer assignments.
